I browsed the Medina Antique Mall (in NE Ohio, not Saudi Arabia) today, scored a nice cut crystal pitcher and a flawed piece of Staffordshire. I noticed a lot of ephemera that I’d never seen there before: Authentic Nazi regalia. Helmets, medals, dress uniform SS hats, swastika armbands and pins, flags, strange little booklets not much larger than a postage stamp featuring the Fuhrer on the covers, which I’m guessing were used as morale boosters and propaganda. A lady that worked there told me they’ve been getting a lot of dealers consigning their Hitler merch, and that it’s been selling fairly robustly, that customers are buying it not for the historical context but because they embrace the ideology. She told me which communities in that
area have their own little ad hoc Nazi and KKK clubs.
