Have to renew my passport. TD Bank, a bunch of crooks cancelled my account down here in South America as their new security algorithm fucked up and was freezing my account all the time. So, I have to open a new one online, but with a VPN think I will be fine. Then, I get my NG pension in about 3 months after filing (you have to have a US bank account), but, will get back pay. I did 8yrs regular Army and 19 NG, so had to wait until 60 for eligibility. I finally, after waiting over 15 years for them to fix my leg which the Army, the VA themselves and a Private hospital they sent me to said I needed knee surgery, just gave up and took disability for it. Should have never waited that long. Then, SS in a couple years.
Plus, side jobs and in South America thats a pretty good salary for a single guy with no kids etc. Once I settle, I can can continue to explore but without the 18 hour days. So many places I have been, but never got to see them due to work.
Some of you would be welcome. Not to stay at my place, but I would help you get set up.
A great Brazilian family has given me an open invite plus a tour and meal at the Federal Military Police barracks in Sao Paulo. Weird structure. They are not actually part of the military, i.e., Army, Marines etc., but a stand alone Federal force. And a Marine COL. I met some very interesting people doing ESL part-time after I had to swear off the contracting life (I started in 97 and ran until 2012 and still do boring stuff). I was about to stroke out, but now my health is perfect (for my age anyways!)
Definately some trips on the Amazon river and one of my team members in Iraq, who got badly wounded took his photography hobby and turned it into a cool business in South Africa. Picture safaris, but cameras and classes instead of guns (but, he and the guides are obviously armed). Safari, training and you get to record your trip1
